Upgrade to QBO Plus
Let’s get started by checking your Vendor details.
Go to Vendors (left navigation bar) > [Vendor Name] > Edit (upper left)
Complete the form > Save (see Screenshot 1)
Note: The IRS requires an EIN (Employee Identification Number) or a SSN (Social Security Number) for 1099 Form filing so if it’s missing, you’ll wanna be sure your vendor provides it.
Next, let’s take a look at where you’ll go in QBO to start preparing your 1099s.
Go to Vendors (left navigation bar) > Prepare 1099s (see Screenshot 2)
You should be at the screen titled Follow the steps to prepare 1099-MISC forms
Let’s start with Item 1 Set up Vendors and Accounts (see Screenshot 3)
Click Select Vendors
Highlight [Vendor Name] > click Add to move to the screen under Track Payments for 1099 (see Screenshot 4)
Click Assign Accounts > Select the applicable Box items > Select [appropriate account] from drop down menu (see Screenshot 5)
Next we’ll take a look at Item 2 Preview Information (see Screenshot 6)
Go to Tax Year: > Select 2014 from drop down menu
Go to Show: > Select 1099 vendors that meet threshold from the drop down menu
Note: If no Vendors are in the list when you select 1099 vendors that meet threshold this means that either you didn’t pay the vendor enough money to qualify or the account associated with your Vendor payments is not correct.
Lastly, we’ll move on to Item 3 Choose how to file with the IRS (see Screenshot 7)
This one’s pretty self-explanatory. You just need to choose how you’re going to file your forms with the IRS. Take a look at the options and choose the one that’s best for you!
