Yes, this happens when you customer list gets put into a custom sort mode, when a name is dragged to another location.

To get back into standard sort, follow these steps:

1. Open the check form.

2. Click in the payee field and then press Ctrl-L to open the names list.

3. At the bottom of the list pick Re-Sort List from the Name button.
