QB Issue Resolution:

The backups are stored inside of disk image files (.dmg). When you double click on a disk image it opens up as a virtual CD on your Mac. This virtual CD is read only – just like a real CD.

To open the file inside it, drag it from the virtual disk into your Documents folder on your Mac. Now it will be read/write and you can open it. (Note if you drag it to your desktop you’ll get an alias and not a copy so don’t do that).

While this may seem odd its deliberately. We found a lot of people would open a backup and start working in it instead of working in a copy of the backup. That changes the backup of course, but worse a lot of them wouldn’t understand they were working in a backup and later would switch back to their original file and discover that a lot of work was missing.
