QB Issue Resolution:

A parent account cannot have a sub-account of a different type.  If you have QuickBooks Online SimpleStart or Essentials, you could forego the parent/sub accounts and just create an income account called Special Event Income and an expense account called Special Event Expenses.  That way you have 1 account to track the money coming in for the event and 1 account to track the money leaving the business for the event.

If you have QuickBooks Online Plus, you could use Class Tracking and create a class called “Special Event”.  Then any income or expenses you have for the event can be assigned that class and you don’t have to adjust your normal COA.
