QB Issue Resolution:
When viewing downloaded transactions you can create payee renaming rules (its sometimes called “payee aliasing”). This is necessary because the financial institution you downloaded the data from is often using names that don’t correspond directly to the names you have in QuickBooks (for vendors, customers, etc). One of the more common cases is you have a vendor called “Home Depot” but when you download from the bank the payee provided is “Home Depot Store #467”.
The renaming rules are created as you go – in the case above you may be assigning “Home Depot Store #467” to be replaced by “Home Depot”. This rule, once created, will be applied to all transactions that are in the downloaded transaction window. I think this is what you are calling a bug but it is working as intended.
It may be that the automatically created renaming rule is “too broad”. Click on the Renaming Rules icon in the toolbar of the Downloaded Transaction window. This will bring up the Renaming Rules list. Here you can adjust the renaming rules to be more specific. If you want similar downloaded payees to automatically map to different QuickBooks payees then try to set up more specific rules here.
If you wan the exact same downloaded payee to apply to two different QuickBooks payees then you have to turn off the renaming rule and do it manually. For example a payee of “Check” downloaded from the bank could be applied to any vendor in QuickBooks. (In this case the bank isn’t providing sufficient info to know who the payee is). QuickBooks ships with a default renaming rule for Check which is “Don’t rename”. You can see this in the Renaming Rules window by typing the word check in the search field in the top right.
