QB Issue Resolution:
Explanation of Last [time period]- to-date on reports
Answer ID: 3349
You might be confused about the meaning of Last [time period]-to-date in the QuickBooks Online reports. Using Last [time period]-to-date alongside This [time period]-to-date allows you to check your progress comparing apples to apples.
A good way to think of Last [time period]-to-date is that it covers the same dates as the report for the current period, but just for the last time period instead of the current one.
Here is an example:
Today’s date is 5/15/10 and you want to run reports that tell you how you are doing this year as compared to last year’s numbers at this time. In order to do that, you would need to pull a Last calendar year-to-date report and compare it to a This calendar year-to-date report for the current year. Last calendar year-to-date would cover 1/1/09-5/15/09, which you could compare to This calendar year-to-date covering 1/1/10 – 5/15/10. Let’s see another example using the same date:
Today’s date is 5/15/10. This month-to-date would be 5/1/10 – 5/15/10, so the Last month-to-date report option would be 4/1/10 – 4/15/10. Some people mistakenly think in this case that Last month-to-date would cover the entire last month and everything to date, in this case 3/1/10 to 4/15/10, but this is incorrect as explained above.
Terms this applies to are: Last week-to-date, Last month-to-date, Last calendar quarter-to-date, Last fiscal quarter-to-date, Last calendar year-to-date and Last fiscal year-to-date.
