QB Issue Resolution:
There are generally four areas of troubleshooting. Generic troubleshooting starts with finding out which of the following areas the issue falls into:
User (Windows or QuickBooks)
Data File (actual file that contains information)
System (computer and/or network)
QuickBooks (program/application)
Detailed instructions
Note: If there is an error message, the QuickBooks Support Page generally has information on its resolution:
Write down the error message exactly
Write down when the error occurs (for example, if the error occurs after clicking print, make a note of that)
Go to www.quickbooks.com/support
In the search area put in the exact error message
Follow the Knowledge Base Article that comes up
If unable to resolve, check the QuickBooks Communities or other QuickBooks Support Options.
The following are detailed steps on how to narrow down the cause of your issue. Once you know the cause, it should be much easier to resolve the issue.
User
Duplicate the steps that seem to be causing the issue, to be sure it happens every time
Try duplicating the issue with a different or new QuickBooks user
If you don’t have an issue with another user, you know there is a problem with one of your QuickBooks users
Try a different Windows user (usually the Windows Admin user)
If you have no issue, then there is a problem with the Windows User
Data
Duplicate the steps that seem to be causing the issue in a different company file
Try in another file you work with
Try in a sample file
If the steps work in the different file or sample file, you probably have a damaged company file
System/Network
Ensure that the computer(s) using QuickBooks meet system requirements
Copy the file to the Desktop and open from Desktop, then attempt to duplicate issue
If no issue in a different location, you may have a damaged folder or permissions/rights issues. Consult IT person or review Microsoft Help and Support.
Multi-User/Network Environment Only
Ensure that hosting is setup correctly
Try duplicating the issue in both Single-User and Multi-User mode
Try a different computer, logging into Windows and QuickBooks as the same users.
If it works on a different computer start comparing and see what is different between the two (programs/processes installed/running, RAM, etc.)
Reboot the server (consult IT person first)
Make sure everyone logs out of the server and turns off their systems before rebooting
General performance issues
Program – If none of the above steps have resolved your issue, then it is almost positively an issue with the program. Follow these steps to fix the program.
Run reboot.bat
If issue persists, repair the program
If still unresolved, uninstall and reinstall the program
