QB Issue Resolution:

Totally agree

Intuit did that to all files in the latest update if that file has any personal identification numbers, (company EIN, social security numbers for anyone, CC numbers, bank account numbers, payroll, etc).    If you delete ALL that information, that you really have to have, then the password protection will stop – per another user who experimented with it.

Intuit seems to think they should control your data security and access procedures for you, as opposed to making the new password requirement an option.  Data security is a user responsibility, even the oft quoted PCI-DSS standards say that.  This is a user community and about all you can do is tell intuit how you feel.

The only way, it turns out, to stop the forced password is to remove all the PINs mentioned above from the data file.
