QB Issue Resolution:
you have a choice basically
you can receive payment against the 2014 invoices and in the amount paid block enter the full amount of the check, QB will ask if you want to refund or keep as a customer credit, keep it as a credit
you can receive payment against the 2014 invoices in the amount of the invoice, then when you make a deposit, on the next line select a customer deposit liability account you create if necessary, and enter the extra amount there
