QB Issue Resolution:

Intuits direction on making sub items is correct

BUT they will NOT solve your problems, so the directions are wrong as an answer

Items are unique in QB
Sub items are ONLY used to organize the list
all items must be purchased, stocked if inventory, and sold

A sub item has no relationship to the parent.  Sell a sub item nothing happens to the parent, or its stock level

To answer your question

there is no alias function in QB so you have to use the item name.

The only work around to simulate the alias function, would be to create a group item with a different name, list the inventory item in the group, set the group to not print the item, and use it when you sell under a different name.

that would mean one group item PER inventory item as an alias.
