QB Issue Resolution:

You are doing it right up to the point of double clicking on the file. The .dmg is like a “virtual cd” – its read only. Quickbooks can’t open the file because it can’t write to the file.

Once you get to the company file (.2014 file extension) … drag it to your Documents folder or somewhere other than the desktop (dragging to the desktop on the Mac creates an alias – not what you need).

Then double click on it to open it.

The “read only” nature of the .dmg file is deliberate – we had problems where people would accidentally use their backup file and then switch back to their real file and think that there transactions had disappeared. However the error message you get is not helpful – we have bug written up to fix that.
