QB Issue Resolution:
If you mean you made a copy of the company file in the finder and renamed the copy then, no, it won’t hurt. Everything has been copied.
BUT! BUT! If you made a mistake and somehow you end up deleting the ONLY copy of your company file then, yes, it will hurt! Very much!
Consider the old copy a backup. Burn it to a CD-ROM. File the CD-ROM. Then delete the old copy from your hard drive.
If you haven’t already, turn on the backup features in QuickBooks->Preferences. Have backups automatically made when you quit the app. Save them to an out of the way place. Better yet save them to MobileMe or 2nd hard drive or another computer.
Storage is cheap. Even the QuickBooks program is cheap. The data for your business, which you have painstakingly spent hundreds of hours entering over time, is valuable. Back it up! Hard drives die!
