QB Issue Resolution:

gear>lists>recurring transactions and set up the invoice and schedule it

the payment you received in the past is income, use make deposits and use an income account as the source account, do NOT select a customer name – doing so will create a customer credit. The down side of this is that there is no customer history for those entries

or as you said create a sales receipt (not an invoice to save steps since you have the money), backdated, then use make deposits again back dated

one issue to consider is that making these entries WILL change your banking balance
