QB Issue Resolution:

“Make inactive” = Stop showing it in lists and dropdowns, as I don’t intend to select it.

That isn’t the same as Not Having info in it. For instance, if you Rented earlier in the year, then no longer rent, and make that account inactive, it’s still part of Fiscal Year reporting, and it has Activity in it. It won’t show up next year, if you never pay rent again.

Showing or not showing on lists does not prevent something from being used. Balance sheet reports always show, unless it is at 0 and you select to customize the report to include only non-zero accounts.

Showing or not showing on reports depends on more than the Viewing Status of that Name or Account or Item. Make Inactive is a Basic List management tool in QB. Not an accounting function.
