QB Issue Resolution:

When running the report to show a Donor’s contribution for a specific time period, the amount is overstated because it is not showing transactions that will reduce it. The transactions are generally either Credit Memos or General Journal Entries and were used for returned NSF checks.
Solution Description
By default the Donor Contribution Summary report only shows two types of transactions, Payment and Sales Receipt. For it to show other transactions we have to modify the report. To do this follow these instructions:

Click on Reports at the top of the screen
Click on Non Profit Reports
Choose Donor Contribution Summary Report
On the top left of the report click on Modify Report (Customize Report in QuickBooks 2012 and later)
Choose the Filter tab at the top of the Modify Report Window
On the left under Filters choose Transaction Types, you may have to scroll down on the Filters window to find it.
In the middle of the window it should say Multiple Transaction Types, click on the drop down arrow
Click on Multiple Transaction Types in the drop down screen
This brings up the Select Transaction Types window
Make sure there is a checkmark next to the transactions you use to track Donor Contributions.
To checkmark or uncheck simple click on the transaction once.
When finished click OK on this window, and click OK on the Modify Reports window.
The report should now show what you want.
Memorize the report by clicking on Memorize at the top of the report
Click OK on the Memorize Report window that comes up.
From now on to open the report click on Reports at the top of the screen
Choose Memorized Reports and then the name of the report you chose.
