QB Issue Resolution:
Are you using the QuickBooks Mac server program or are you sharing a remote drive and accessing it via single user mode? (I don’t recommend the later)
If using the QuickBooks Mac server, there are three things that influence the connection. The first is the network throughput. What kind of network are you on? If it is wireless (likely) then make sure you have good signal strength. If the server machine is also wireless same thing there. If you are using multiple routers that may be a factor as well – you have to make sure you have decent speed.
The second issue is reliability. if there is a lot of interference the network may not be reliably sending packets. In that case there will be drop outs.
Both of the two above can be tested by using a wired network, or testing with a transfer of the company file over something like a shared disk. See if that is also problematic. if it is the problem is likely the network connection.
The other factor is the size of the company file. if the file is very large it will take longer to connect. When you first connect essentially the entire file is being transferred from server to client. While this is something of a worst case it does mean that all subsequent work is done almost as if it were local. So when you run reports and so forth it isn’t necessary to transmit a lot of information.
How big is the company file in the Finder? (You can select the company file on the server and do a File->Get Info to see).
