QB Issue Resolution:
Windows will allow Excel to open a .iif file if you set your Default Programs, to teach Windows that .iif “opens with Excel.” That way, you do not need to mess with setting columns, choosing delimiters, etc.
If you try to double-click .iif and have not set that default, Excel doesn’t understand this file IS something it can open.
Always save the file after editing without updating to any fancy formatting.
You can use Notepad for this, as well.
You need to edit and remove the lines I have highlighted in my attached screenshot. These Header lines tell QB this is Timer data. But QB understands regular .iif just fine, and removing those header lines bypasses the “you must use Timer” pop up error.
Keep any row that is a TIMEACT row.
You also no longer get the warning that this file has already been imported, so be cautious.
