Converting from Microsoft Small Business Accounting

We no longer support direct conversion from Microsoft Small Business Accounting to QuickBooks Online. Because Microsoft Small Business Accounting is a discontinued desktop product, there is no supported migration path to move your data directly into QuickBooks Online.

To get started with QuickBooks Online, we recommend creating a new company file and manually entering your opening balances and key data. This ensures your data is accurate and formatted correctly for the current QuickBooks Online structure.

To set up your new file:

  1. Gather your reports: Have your Balance Sheet and Profit and Loss reports available from your previous software as of your transition start date.
  2. Create your account: If you haven’t already, sign up for a QuickBooks Online subscription.
  3. Enter opening balances: Use the Settings (gear icon) to set up your Chart of Accounts and enter your opening balances.
  4. Import lists: You can often import customers, vendors, and products/services using Excel or CSV files to save time on manual entry.

For detailed guidance on setting up your company file and importing data, please refer to the official Intuit support documentation.
