Credit Card Declined for QuickBooks Online Subscription
If your credit card is declined for your QuickBooks Online subscription, we send an automated email notification. We do not automatically retry the payment; you must update your billing information to reactivate your account.
To update your payment information:
- Sign in to QuickBooks Online.
- Select the Settings gear icon.
- Select Account and settings (or Billing & subscription).
- Select the Billing & subscription tab.
- In the Payment method section, select Edit.
- Enter your credit card details, including the complete card number, name on card, expiration date, and security code.
- Ensure the billing address matches the address associated with your credit card statement.
- Select Save.
After saving, your account is reactivated immediately. We will attempt to process the payment at midnight.
If your card is declined, check for the following common issues:
- Invalid account number: Verify the number is entered correctly.
- Expired card: Ensure the expiration date is current.
- Insufficient funds or credit limit: Check that the account has available funds.
- Incorrect billing address: The address must match what your bank has on file.
- Security block: The card may be flagged as lost, stolen, or placed on a negative file by the issuer.
- General decline: The issuing bank may not provide a specific reason for the decline. Contact your bank for more details.
