How do I manually enter an exchange rate?

You can manually set exchange rates in QuickBooks Online either globally for a specific date or directly on an individual transaction.

Set a rate from the Currency Center

Use this method to update the rate for all transactions on a specific date.

  1. Select the Settings gear icon.

  2. Select Currencies.

  3. Find the currency you want to update in the list and select the drop-down arrow in the Action column.

  4. Select Edit currency.

  5. Enter the new exchange rate and select Save.

A blue “i” icon appears next to the rate, indicating it was manually set for that day.

Set a rate within a transaction

Use this method when you need to adjust the rate for a specific invoice, bill, or expense.

  1. Open the transaction you are creating or editing.
  2. In the currency section, locate the Exchange rate field.
  3. Enter the specific rate you want to use.
  4. Complete the transaction and select Save.

If you are working with a new currency and no rate is available, you must enter a rate manually to save the transaction. QuickBooks Online typically provides the most recent market rate, but you can override it at any time using the steps above.
