How to Check for Windows Administration Rights?

The original question and answer you provided refer to an older, desktop-based installation process involving ActiveX controls and Windows user accounts. This information is outdated and does not apply to the current QuickBooks Online service.

QuickBooks Online is a cloud-based application (SaaS). It runs entirely in your web browser and does not require you to install ActiveX controls or check your Windows operating system for administrative rights to function.

To manage user access and permissions within QuickBooks Online today, follow these steps:

  1. Select the Settings gear icon in the upper-right corner.
  2. Select Manage users under the “Your Company” column.
  3. Review the list of users. The user designated as the Master Admin has the highest level of access.
  4. To see what a specific user can do, select Edit in the Action column next to their name and review their User type (e.g., Standard, Admin) and Access rights.

If you are experiencing issues logging in or accessing the company file, the problem is likely related to your browser settings, your Intuit account credentials, or your user role within QBO—not your Windows administration rights.
