How do I link GoPayment to QuickBooks Online?
Yes, an existing GoPayment account can be linked to QuickBooks Online, and the link is made from inside QuickBooks Online rather than from the phone app. QuickBooks searches for merchant accounts registered to your Intuit user ID and attaches the matching one to your company.
The account behind the app
GoPayment is a card reader app, not a separate payment system. Underneath it sits an Intuit merchant account, the infrastructure Intuit now brands as QuickBooks Payments, and that account is what QuickBooks Online connects to.
Intuit has since retired the standalone GoPayment app and folded its card reader features into the QuickBooks mobile app. The merchant account underneath did not change, so an older GoPayment account links the same way it always did.
Link the accounts
The connection is made in a web browser, not on the phone. You will need an admin sign-in, because the settings page is restricted to company administrators.
- Sign in to QuickBooks Online.
- Select the Settings gear icon.
- Select Account and settings.
- Open the Payments tab.
- In the Existing account section, select Connect.
- QuickBooks searches for merchant accounts associated with your user ID.
- Confirm the correct merchant account is listed, then select Link account.
The search matches against the Intuit user ID you signed in with. If the GoPayment account was created under a different email address, sign in with that ID instead, or the search will come back empty.
Intuit renames buttons on the Payments tab from time to time. If the wording has shifted, look for the choice between starting a new payments account and connecting an existing one.
Already linked?
If the Payments tab shows a Merchant details section rather than a Connect button, your company is already tied to a merchant account. Select Manage details to review which one.
Nothing further needs linking at that point. Card sales taken through the reader flow into your books on their own.
If the link fails
A company holds one linked merchant account at a time, and some account types cannot be linked from the website at all. Swapping in a different account, or unlinking the one already attached, is not a self-service job.
Those changes live inside Intuit’s payment platform, and only Intuit can make them. Contact the QuickBooks Payments support team and have your merchant account details ready. We handle QuickBooks data repair and file conversions, not payment accounts, so the vendor’s own channel is the right place for this.
After the accounts are linked
Card payments taken through GoPayment or the QuickBooks mobile app download into QuickBooks Online once the link is live. Each sale arrives with its processing fee recorded, so deposits reconcile cleanly against your statement.
A payment taken against an open invoice marks that invoice paid. Sales taken on the spot create their own sales receipt, which keeps the day’s card revenue and the bank deposit in agreement.
