Does QuickBooks Online have a mobile app?
Yes, QuickBooks Online runs on phones and tablets through Intuit’s apps for iOS and Android. Everything you save in the app is the same online data you see in a browser, so there is nothing to sync or copy between the two.
You can also sign in from a phone browser, but the website is built for a desktop screen. On a phone, the app is the more usable option, and the rest of this page assumes it.
Where the apps run
The apps cover iOS and Android, though availability varies by country. A few regional app stores do not carry them at all, and in those places a browser is the only route in.
Intuit also retires app support for older operating systems over time. A tablet that has not been updated in years can end up on a version that no longer signs in, which is worth ruling out before you blame the password.
Installing the right app
Search the App Store or Google Play for QuickBooks Online and check that the publisher is Intuit before installing. Several unrelated bookkeeping apps use similar names, and a lookalike will ask for your sign-in details without connecting to anything.
There is no separate account to create. The app uses your existing user ID, your existing subscription, and the same company permissions you already have on the web.
What the app handles well
The app is built around work done away from a desk:
- Creating, sending, and checking the status of invoices
- Capturing receipts with the phone camera
- Logging business mileage
- Adding and editing customers, and viewing their balances
- Reviewing and categorizing downloaded bank transactions
- Running everyday reports such as profit and loss
This is not a cut-down viewer. An invoice raised on the phone is live in the books the moment it is saved, and a colleague at a computer sees it at once.
Do the apps do everything?
No. The app covers frequent tasks and leaves heavier setup and administration to the full browser version. Work that still needs a browser includes:
- Creating journal entries
- Setting up bank rules
- Building budgets
- Running a bank reconciliation
- Managing users, permissions, and company settings
- Customizing and exporting most advanced reports
Your accountant’s review tools also live in the browser, so expect year-end work to happen at a computer.
Signing in and resets
Sign in with the same user ID and password you use on the website. The app may also ask for a one-time code, since Intuit applies extra verification to sign-ins from a new device.
If sign-in keeps failing, work through the usual causes:
- Confirm the user ID is the email address registered with Intuit, not an older login you once used
- Use the Forgot Password link on the sign-in screen to reset it
- Update the app if it has sat unused for months, because stale versions are eventually locked out
- Check the device clock, since a wrong date or time can break code verification
The user ID, the password, and the subscription all live with Intuit, and we cannot view or reset any of them. When a reset still leaves you locked out, Intuit’s own support handles account access through its help site and the chat inside its apps.
