Why is the Reconcile page blank in QuickBooks Online?

A Reconcile page that opens blank, freezes, or never finishes loading is nearly always a browser problem in QuickBooks Online. Your data is not at risk. The reconciliation itself sits on Intuit’s servers, and a page that fails to display does not change anything.

These same steps apply when the page loads but is unresponsive or stuck partway. Work through them in order, because they run from fastest to slowest.

Use a supported browser

QuickBooks Online is built for current versions of four browsers:

Internet Explorer is no longer supported, so if you are still on it, switch before trying anything else. Chrome, Edge, and Firefox update themselves, but a browser you rarely open can fall behind.

Does a private window load it?

Open a private or incognito window, sign in there, and go to the Reconcile page. The shortcut is Ctrl+Shift+N in Chrome or Edge, and Ctrl+Shift+P in Firefox. On Safari, choose New Private Window from the File menu.

If the page loads normally there, something in your regular session is at fault, which means cached files or an extension. If it is still blank, skip the next two sections and try a different browser.

Clear the cache and cookies

Old cache and cookies can stop the page from rendering properly. Clearing them will also sign you out of other sites, so keep your passwords handy, then follow these steps:

  1. Clear your browser’s cache and cookies.
  2. Close the browser completely, then reopen it.
  3. Sign back in, open Settings, and select Reconcile under Tools.

An unfinished reconciliation is saved automatically. When the page returns, QuickBooks Online offers to resume it rather than start over.

Turn off browser extensions

Ad blockers, pop-up blockers, and privacy tools are the usual offenders. Disable every extension, reload the page, and if it appears, turn them back on one at a time. The one that breaks it again is the one to leave off or to set to allow QuickBooks Online.

What if other pages fail too?

Before blaming your browser, open one or two other screens, such as Reports or Banking. If those are blank or painfully slow as well, the fault is probably on Intuit’s side rather than yours. Wait a while and try again; widespread problems usually clear on their own.

If only Reconcile misbehaves and other pages work, switching to another supported browser is the fastest workaround. If the page is blank in every browser you own, the problem is specific to your company, and that is worth reporting.

When to involve Intuit

Intuit’s support team can inspect your company on its servers, which no one outside Intuit can do. You reach them through the Help menu inside QuickBooks Online, or through Intuit’s own support site. Describe what you have already tried, in order; it makes the conversation shorter.
