Why can't I see my memo in the report?
In QuickBooks Online, reports often display a combined Memo/Description column. The system automatically chooses which field to show based on the transaction type, and there isn’t a setting to force a specific report to display the Memo field if it defaults to showing the Description.
Generally, reports show the Description field for sales transactions (like Invoices, Sales Receipts, and Credit Memos) and vendor transactions (like Bills and Checks). They typically show the Memo field for bank transfers, journal entries, and deposits.
If you need to see the Memo field for transactions where the report only shows the Description, we recommend running the Transaction List by Date report. This report displays the Memo column and can be customized to filter for the specific transaction types you need.
To run this report:
- Go to the Reports menu.
- Search for and select Transaction List by Date.
- Use the Customize button to filter by Transaction Type, Date, or other specific criteria.
