QB Issue Resolution:

I believe right to left languages work on the Mac version – although not officially. Unfortunately its not set up for non-US tax systems so I don’t know how useful it is unless you are in the US.

As to why… its an attempt to be compatible with OS X text systems. We don’t put a lot of time into it but if we encounter a problem we try to get it queued for a fix. The 2015 had a big overhaul to support international date settings better and we are still working out some international currency support issues (but those should be shipping in slipstreams as the main work shipped in 2015).

Underneath the hood the Mac version uses unicode character sets for most of the text – there might still be some older non-unicode usage in older screens but we have been trying to eradicate them. I think QuickBooks Windows uses Win Pages instead of unicode but I don’t work on those products and am not certain – my information may be old there.
