QB Issue Resolution:

Step 1

Start QuickBooks and navigate to the home screen. Open the chart of accounts by clicking on the “lists” button on the top menu bar, and then selecting “chart of accounts.” Access the QuickBooks shortcut to the chart of accounts by holding “control” and clicking “a” on your keyboard.

Step 2

Expand the chart of accounts window by clicking the box in the upper right had corner of the new window. Click the “edit” button on the top menu bar and select “new account.” Check the “other account types” option at the bottom of the account type list. Select the drop down bar and choose “other current assets.” Name the account “Sales Tax Adjustments.” Close the chart of accounts.

Step 3

Click the “vendors” button on the top menu bar of the home screen. On the drop down menu of the “vendors” button choose “sales tax” and then select “adjust sales tax due.” A new window opens titled “sales tax adjustment.” Change the adjustment date to the desired date of change and enter a transaction number.

Step 4

Choose the sales tax vendor you wish to adjust by using the sales tax vendor drop down. Using the drop down for the adjustment account, select the “sales tax adjustment” account. Select the increase or decrease button and then type the amount in the next box. Use the memo line to include any additional details that may help you later identify the transaction.

Step 5

Open the chart of accounts and double click the “sales tax adjustment” account. Change the date range in the upper center of the new window to include the date of the sales tax adjustment you just finished. Click refresh in the menu bar of the report. Review the transactions to make sure your adjustment appears in the account, and that it has achieved the desired result.
