All versions of QB have hundreds of bugs. As QB gets more complicated and uses additional technologies, this gets worse. That noted, you won’t notice most of the bugs and the 2018 version of QB is quite stable in my experience.

2018 version: Can I use the 2018 version of 1099-misc to file a 1099 for the 2017 tax year?

The form metrics have not changed in several years AFAIK.

There is actually no 1099 PDF form available for filing because the IRS requires their red ink form stock to be used (you have to print directly on it.)

2018 version: Hello, I took a copy of my clients quickbooks but they are using quickbooks desktop 2017 and I have 2018. Do I have to purchase 2017 to avoid the conversion?

Yes, unless you have the accountant’s version. They can send you an accountant’s file that you can open and send back from a 2018 version to a 2017 version. It will warn you that you are updating but it is ok
