Did you make it inactive?  (Look at the bottom, make sure the box to display inactive/all accounts is checked.)

box: If you delete a vendor, does it delete the transaction history?

No.  You can’t actually delete the vendor — instead they are made inactive.  But you don’t see them on your lists, etc. unless you check the box to include inactive.  The activity or history will still be there and included in reports, etc.

I would first check in your print settings that nothing for alignment is checked. Other than that that’s all I got.

box: I just created a new list of detail types but they are not in the detail lists on the chart of accounts. How do I get them included in the drop box

you can not add to the detail type

select the detail type closest to what you want, then in the top right block for name, change the name to what you want it read
