Quickbooks Error Codes
Fix banking and connection errors in QuickBooks Online
If you’re experiencing issues connecting your bank accounts, seeing specific error codes, or encountering problems with data synchronization, use this guide to resolve them.
Note: QuickBooks Online is a cloud-based product. Steps involving .bat files, Windows registry edits, or local file repairs (common in QuickBooks Desktop) do not apply to QuickBooks Online. If you are seeing errors related to “Sync Manager” or “Company File” locations, ensure you are logging into your QuickBooks Online account via a web browser or the QBO Mobile app, rather than a desktop application.
Resolve banking error 9999 and connection issues
Error 9999 is a general script or downloading error that occurs when QuickBooks Online cannot communicate with your bank’s website. This is often due to temporary server outages at the bank or maintenance periods.
To fix Error 9999:
- Verify the bank status: Check your bank’s website directly to ensure online banking is functional and there are no maintenance announcements.
- Update your bank credentials: Sometimes a password change at the bank level breaks the connection.
- Go to Banking (or Transactions) in the left navigation.
- Select the affected bank account and click Edit (the pencil icon).
- Re-enter your User ID and Password, then select Update Sign-In Info.
- Manual Update: Try manually updating the account.
- Go to the Banking or Transactions menu.
- Click the Update button in the upper right corner.
If the issue persists, it may be a temporary outage with the bank’s connection to Intuit. Wait a few hours and try again.
Other common banking error codes
QuickBooks Online categorizes many banking connectivity issues under specific error codes. If you see a code other than 9999 (such as 101, 102, 103, 105, 324, or 999), it usually indicates a specific mismatch between your bank login credentials and what QuickBooks has on file.
General troubleshooting steps for banking errors:
- Error 101, 103, 315, or 324: These typically mean the User ID or Password is incorrect, or the bank requires a specific security update (like a One-Time Passcode) directly on their site before you can connect again.
- Error 102: Usually means the bank’s website is down for maintenance or has changed their login page structure.
- Error 324: The account has been closed at the bank or the account type (e.g., checking vs. savings) does not match what the bank sends to QuickBooks.
To resolve these:
- Log in to your bank’s website outside of QuickBooks to ensure your account is active and there are no alerts.
- Return to QuickBooks Online, navigate to Banking, and select the account to update your credentials.
- If you continue to see errors, select Contact Support within the product to report the connection issue to Intuit.
Troubleshoot performance issues (Freezing or Hanging)
If QuickBooks Online is freezing, hanging, or running slowly, the issue is often related to your internet browser or temporary internet files.
Steps to improve performance:
- Clear your browser cache and cookies: Over time, stored data can cause conflicts with the web application. Clearing this data often resolves freezing issues.
- Try an Incognito or Private window: This disables browser extensions that might be interfering with QuickBooks Online.
- Chrome: Press
Ctrl+Shift+N. - Firefox: Press
Ctrl+Shift+P. - Safari: Press
Command+Shift+N.
- Chrome: Press
- Check your internet connection: Since QuickBooks Online is cloud-based, a slow or unstable internet connection will cause the app to hang.
- Switch browsers: If you are using Internet Explorer or Edge, try switching to Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox, which are fully supported for QuickBooks Online.
Sync and data integration errors
If you are using third-party apps that integrate with QuickBooks Online, you may occasionally see sync errors.
Common sync issues:
- Incorrect Company File: Ensure you are logged into the correct QuickBooks Online company. If you have multiple companies, an app might be trying to sync to the wrong one.
- Permissions: The user account attempting to sync must have “Admin” or “Standard” permissions. “Reports Only” users cannot sync data.
- App Status: Check the status of the third-party app. Sometimes the issue is on the app provider’s end, not within QuickBooks.
To fix sync errors:
- Disconnect and reconnect the app in the Apps menu in QuickBooks Online.
- Verify that the bank feeds or data sources the app relies on are currently working (see the banking section above).
If you are seeing specific error codes referencing “Intuit Sync Manager” or “Integrated Applications” (such as 17_7026), please note that these are legacy errors associated with QuickBooks Desktop. In QuickBooks Online, integration is handled via the Apps menu. If you are seeing these messages, ensure you are not attempting to use a desktop-only feature within the web environment.
