Common questions

Reporting garnishments on W-2s

Garnishments, including child support payments, are not reported on Form W-2. You do not need to enter these amounts on the W-2 form in QuickBooks.

cXML invoice support

QuickBooks Online does not have a built-in feature to create cXML files. If you require invoices in cXML format, you will need to export your data and format it manually using a third-party tool or spreadsheet software.

Troubleshooting PA W-2 file validation (E-Tides)

If you are trying to upload your W-2 file to the Pennsylvania E-Tides system and receive a “no data provided for Location Address” error, it may be due to how the street address is mapped in the file.

• The Issue: QuickBooks places the employee street address in the “Delivery Address” field (columns 95-116). However, the PA E-Tides system requires the street address in the “Location Address” field (columns 73-94).
• The Workaround: You can correct this by opening the file in a text editor and manually moving the street address data from the Delivery Address columns to the Location Address columns. Once moved, the file should validate successfully.

Product lifecycle and compatibility

• Discontinued versions: QuickBooks Desktop products (such as the 2012 Not For Profit edition) generally have a three-year lifecycle. Once a version is discontinued, it no longer receives security updates or support. For the latest features and support, we recommend upgrading to QuickBooks Online.
• Microsoft Office compatibility: QuickBooks is designed to be compatible with natively installed versions of Microsoft Office. If you are using “Click-to-Run” versions of Office and experience issues, please check our official documentation for the most current compatibility requirements.
