Resolve “Unexpected problem” errors in QuickBooks Online
If you see an “Unexpected problem” message when signing in, viewing the Home page, or working with sales forms, it is usually due to a temporary browser issue or a known product glitch. We are aware of several specific scenarios that cause this error and have outlined the steps to resolve them below.
General browser troubleshooting
Most “Unexpected problem” errors are caused by stored internet files that conflict with QuickBooks Online. This often happens when first logging in or after switching between multiple QuickBooks accounts.
To resolve this, clear your browser’s cache and cookies. If you are unsure how to do this, refer to your browser’s help documentation or try the following steps:
- Log out of QuickBooks Online.
- Clear your browser’s cache and cookies.
- Restart your browser and log back in.
If the error persists after clearing the cache, try signing in using a different supported browser (such as Chrome, Firefox, or Edge). This helps determine if the issue is specific to one browser.
Printing errors with specific templates
If you receive an “Unexpected Internal Error” (specifically code -30102) when trying to print invoices, it is likely related to a recent update affecting specific form templates. This issue impacts:
- Modern template with the logo on the Right.
- Friendly template with the logo on the Left.
Our engineers are working on a fix for a future update. As a workaround, you can change the template style:
- Select the Settings gear icon.
- Under Your Company, select Custom form styles.
- Find the template you want to change and select Edit.
- Change the logo placement or select a different template design.
- Select Done and try printing again.
Service outages and high-priority issues
Sometimes, an “Unexpected problem” error appears because QuickBooks Online is experiencing a temporary service outage. If you are unable to log in on multiple browsers or if the error appears widespread, check the Intuit Status Page to see if there is a reported incident.
If a service outage is listed, our product engineers are already aware and are working to resolve it as a high priority. You do not need to report the issue again; simply wait for the status to update to “Operational.”
Other known error codes
In rare cases, you may see specific error codes such as Error 106 or a message referencing LogoFileCacheHandler. These are typically variants of the issues described above.
- Error 106: This is often a login issue that resolves itself or is fixed by clearing your cache.
- LogoFileCacheHandler: This is a known issue that may appear sporadically when viewing or sending sales forms. It is often tied to the same browser cache issues or template printing errors mentioned earlier.
If you continue to experience these errors after trying the troubleshooting steps above, please verify your issue is not part of a wider outage by checking the community forums or status page.
