Updates

Manage updates and tax tables in QuickBooks Online

QuickBooks Online is a cloud-based product, which means updates and tax table changes happen automatically. You don’t need to manually download patches or install maintenance releases the way desktop software does. This guide covers how updates work, what to expect for payroll taxes, and how to handle common issues related to data display and banking.

How automatic updates work

Because QuickBooks Online lives in the cloud, we handle all updates and maintenance on our servers. You cannot stop or disable these updates. This ensures that your data is always secure and that you are using the latest version of the software with the newest features and security patches.

There is no “Check for Updates” button or manual download process. When you sign in, you are automatically using the most current version of the service available.

Payroll tax table updates

If you use an Intuit Payroll service (such as QuickBooks Online Payroll, Standard, Enhanced, or Assisted), we update your tax tables automatically. You do not need to download or install tax formulas manually.

If you do not subscribe to an Intuit Payroll service, you must manually check current tax rates (such as federal withholding) via IRS resources (like Circular E) and adjust your setup accordingly.

Troubleshooting transaction and banking issues

While software updates are automatic, you may occasionally encounter issues with how data is displayed or imported.

Bank Feeds won’t add transactions

If you download bank transactions but cannot select or add them to your registers, this may be a temporary connectivity issue. We recommend refreshing your browser or clearing your cache and cookies. ### Hiding outdated transactions Currently, there is no option to hide or filter out “out of date” transactions directly from the home page or the register view. We understand this would be a helpful feature for keeping your view clean.
