QB Issue Resolution:

If you run reports that have Journal Entries on them (General Journal) you’ll find that the Name column is blank.

Most transactions have an “account” and a “distribution account.” For example, when you write a check, the bank account is the “account” and the expense account is the “distribution account.” The name gets saved with the “account.” For most reports, the “account” with its name is displayed on the report.

Journal entries are different. They do not have an “account,” only a “distribution account.” The name doesn’t come through onto a report.

Some reports will allow you to add columns such as a column for Customer, Vendor, and/or Employee. If you add these columns, the report will list the name that was on the journal entry.

If you need to see a name on a journal entry, try using the Transaction Detail by Account report.

Click Reports on the left sidebar and search for the Transaction Detail by Account report.
Run the report.
Click the Change Columns button at the bottom-left.
Select the name type (left box) that you need to see (Customer, Employee, Vendor ), and then click the Add button.
Click OK.
Click Run Report.
