QB Issue Resolution:
You need to create a deduction item.
To do that, go to the “lists” drop down menu, then to the “payroll item list”. From there, right click your mouse and choose “new”, then choose “custom setup”.
Name the item as you want to see it on the paycheck, click next. Do not fill in the top two boxes on the “Agency” screen, just choose the account you would like this items amounts to post to, click next. The tax tracking type is “none”, and click next. No taxes should be checked, click next.
Leave the “calculate based on quantity” screen at “neither”, click next. “Gross vs. Net” is “Net Pay”, and click next. And the “Default rate and limit” screen should stay the way it is and click “finish”. Then just click “OK” to the message “you can now setup a scheduled payment…”.
If it is a one or few time amount to be deducted, you can just add it to the “other payroll items” area, when creating payroll, on the “preview paycheck”. If the deduction will be on-going, you may want to edit the employees’ record and add it there for it to deduct from every paycheck .
